Primary Care Association Leadership Council
Hostetler Group
SYSTEM TRANSFORMATION
The Need | Craig Hostetler is the former director of the Oregon Primary Care Association, and was called on to help primary care association (PCA) directors from around the country consider redesigning their approach to collaboration. After years of talking about change, PCA leaders were looking for some help to articulate a clear plan of action and get unstuck.
The Approach | As a former colleague at OPCA, Craig invited Ariel to collaborate on facilitating this stakeholder engagement and shared decision-making process. Together, they designed and executed a process for working with PCA leaders to:
Navigate political complexities
Understand stakeholder goals and perspectives
Develop a strategy and tactical proposal for launching and developing a new organizational structure for PCAs to collaborate effectively
Reach consensus about moving forward together
The Outcomes | After extensive listening and engagement with key stakeholders, Craig and Ariel developed a proposal and decision-making process that was embraced by PCA leadership. After many years of talking about improving their approach to collaboration, we helped this group of leaders take decisive action.
The Learnings | Once again, the power of the team made all the difference. In this effort, Craig contributed his years of experience as a PCA executive director, as well as his extensive experience leading strategic change initiatives.
Ariel contributed her expertise in motivational interviewing, popular education, and facilitative leadership to design and implement a group process for helping this collective move forward after years of ambivalence.
